Chris Williams – “Anywhere: Photographs 2010 – 2019”

Anywhere is a photobook project consisting of 79 color images, taken at locations in the United States and Europe between 2010 and 2019. The images have been selected and sequenced in an effort to use photography to find order and value in ambivalent places — the places we ignore on the way to a destination, the places we avoid, the places we suffer through, the places we thought we knew intimately but that become transfigured when looked at from new perspectives. At once distinguished by a blankness of tone and a rigorous attention to composition, the collection proposes the value of seeing in ways that enable us to find wonder while traversing the ubiquitous banal landscapes that surround us.

In addition to the images, the book contains an essay, “Ten Theses on Anywhere,” proposing some concepts defining the project.
